3.5 great | geasoftime | March 10th 13 | Markus Popp (of Oval) went to Brazil and recorded this 16 track collaboration with seven artists that he had never met before over a ten day period. Each day Popp would show up at the Goethe Institute and would be introduced to a South American singer participating in the project. They'd spend the remainder of the day recording, and Calidostopia! is the cumulative effort of those seven recording sessions. He utilized previously recorded and unreleased material in the production of this album. The album was then released for free, funded by the Goethe Institute and the Cultural Foundation of the State of Bahia. Only a producer as talented as Popp could possibly pull something like this so smoothly and naturally. The Oval aspect of the release is what primarily concerns me, however I am not disappointed that glitch takes the passenger seat here. It's not something I would normally seek out, but it's very cool for what it is.
