Review Summary: Amazing Solo Album from Ex-Arch Enemy guitarist

Already a big fan of Chris' work on Arch Enemy albums, I was excited to listen to his second solo album reviewed here. I was not disappointed, though it does not sound like AE at all it has the same uplifting, achingly beautiful guitar notes that Chris weaves so wonderfully. I wonder why Chris can't go back to AE and play with his big brother again but I guess that's a good thing as Jeff Loomis is doing a splendid job in AE although restrained. Not to mention Chris does a great job on vocals too.

The album kicks off with 'Sea is Black' which is a soulful mid-tempo rocker with distinct 80s flavours. After 2 more decent songs comes ' Nothing is Nothing' which has one of the best guitar solos I have ever heard. 'Big City' is another song on which Chris really comes out of his comfort zone and shows his bluesy sensibilities.

To summarize Chris has really come out in leaps and bounds in terms of songwriting from his first solo album and really explored musical horizons well outside of his superstar ex band. He also is a part of a very good band called 'Armageddon' worth checking

Recommended Songs:

Sea is Black
Nothing is Nothing: try listening to the guitar solo while stoned, it will take you out of your body.
The Storm
Back to the Jungle

I see you are just starting out to review, me being a mediocre reviewer and all I have to say you need to flesh out your reviews a bit more, since I had a hard time understanding what this album is like,

You talked about the musicianship very much in passing and focused mainly in Chris and his relationship with Arch Enemy, I also recomend you read a lot more reviews around here, there are quite a few good reviewers and doing so will help you take queues from them while creating your own voice when explaining an album.

Cheers!

Hey Nikkolae,

Thanks for the feedback, I will work on it.

Just wanted to highlight how different Chris' work is on this album compared to AE
