Review Summary: 2012 Progressive act taking the best componants of prog and making it their own.
Disconnect is a new progressive band to the modern scene and they are definately holding their own. The vocalist may at first take a some getting used to as his voice isn't greatest, nor is it full of expression with extravagant ranges but he does a good enough job to fit in with songs. The music, however, more than makes up for any vocalist issues. Disconnect have a very Rush vibe where they utilize catchy clean riffs and audible bass to carry their music forward. The band does an excellent job of creating variatability in their songs. The opening track "Adventures in Taxidermy" begins with the catchy techniques I mentioned earlier that progress until distortion is warranted. They know how to bring the groove and deep feel without sounding cheesy. If there were such a thing as mellow darkened progressive this would be it. Although fun and catchy that never overdo themselves. The drummer is also quite interesting and shines in "Inside Job" which uses eastern styled scales on top of some catchy and inventive drumming techniques like rolling snares in combination to a legatto cymbal clash. This same track also gives of a lot of early Zepplin vibes too.
The lengthy closer "Twisting the Knife" is an 18 minute journey consisting of mellow sections that build into larger rock sections. Its notable that during this track it jumps into moods that are darker and detemined like something you find off a Tool album. In fact, the vocals at this moment sound just like Maynards voice, then the song changes all over again into a Pink Floyd esq moment off Animals. The midway point jumps into mellow smooth rock akin to Queensryche before breaking into a solo that is oh so sweet.
Although Enough Blame to go Around isn't groundbreaking in the slightest it does prove to be one of the stonger prog releases of 2012. You would do well to at least give this album a listen.
