Review Summary: There's enough hard beats and melody in this EP that I'm sure would please even some die-hard Skrillex fans.
There are a lot of artists that are not well known in the world, or just haven't given the guts to try to push up to the top. Haywyre is one of those artists that aren't that well known, but he is an artist and composer that makes some really good music.
In this particular EP, Haywyre stepps out of the more melodic music that he usually makes and works more on technicality and harder beats, making it sound more like dubstep, but at the same time, it doesn't necessarily sound like dubstep, it's sort of in the middle. According to Haywyre himself (Martin Vogt), his EP has a bit of a concept to it. The album artwork represents the ability of endless existence, hence the glowing circle, while the first track of the album, "LD004", is based on a dream that he had, and in the dream world, your mind is free to roam.
As the music for itself, I can't say anything bad about this EP. Although Haywyre doesn't create the sterepotypical dubstep that most people know, in which some artists like Skrillex deliver, Hawyre creates this EP into a whole different level. The first track, "LD004", has a bit of melody with a bit of a beat to it. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I really like it. In his fourth album, "The Voyage," he mixed electronica and jazz together to make some brilliant music. His songs "Contrast" and "Raw Crunch" sort of move back to the melodic tone a bit while he goes back to the harder beats in "Prototype." The song "Stone Shower" sort of mixes the harder beats and the melodic tone together and is well executed, but for some reason, it seems to be the most forgettable, but that's probably just me. The last track on the EP "Mezmerize" starts off as what seems like a melody, but quickly transitions the tempo into a slower beat, and transitions again near the end to a faster beat. Along with that, the different sounds in the music change from one speaker into another (if you're wearing headphones, it might mess with your mind a bit) that make the song probably one of the best songs off of the EP.
If you got the free download from Vibedeck.com, you would also get two bonus tracks, which are just remixes of two songs. The first remix is the song "Raw Cruch", but features the rapper Jay Fresh for lyrics. The lyrics in the remix sends a message that says, "Just f*ck what everybody says and just do it for love." Personally, I'd prefer it if there was some more lyric work on the song, but otherwise, a great track. The next bonus track is a dubstep remix of LD004. This particular remix slightly steps away from the actual song and goes into it's own thing, which leads me to believe that I would've liked this song better of it was a song of it's own rather than a remix, but another really great track.
Overall, this really is a fantastic EP. After hear this, I simply can't wait to hear what Haywyre has to offer in the future.
