Let's not beat about the bush here; there are some ***ing talented bands out there. It would appear that Dead Air are one such band, mixing styles from right across the board to create a frenetic but powerful sound. Think the child of Architects and SiKth who hangs out with Born of Osiris too much.
You only need to listen to intro track Impermenance to realise just what we mean by this. The guitar melodies and riffs have a certain djent-ish feel about them, but to say that they are djent would be unfair on the other kind of styles they utilise. The huge melodic moment in Unbound, with it's clean singing and guitar-tapping backing, just goes to show that this band are capable of so much more than pure heaviness.
Mentioning the clean singing brings us on to our next praise of this band. The clean singing may not be as diverse as some people would like (mainly staying around mid-register) but it has to be said that the screaming is perfectly executed. Unlike a lot of bands of their progressive ilk the screams are actually decipherable, thankfully. Again, there may not be as much variation as those large hairy men with face tattoos would like, but you can't please everyone.
What Dead Air have done with this EP pleased us immensely though, and just for the record we are REALLY excited about the progress of this kind of music; a progression that Dead Air are sure to be at the forefront of for years to come.
