"Holes" has to be a top ten opener of all-time. No question, it's just breathtaking.

It could be a 5 with time. I kinda prefer its sister band's album, The Soft Bulletin, a little more though. Still, this has some all-timers: Holes, Endlessly, Goddess and Funny Bird to name a few.

For some reason I prefer this to Soft Bulletin...more romance to it maybe?

They’re both hard 5’s though

That opener is nothing short of breathtaking. Quite a late comer to this!

Listening to this for the first time ever. Two tracks in and holy shit, how is this *not* The Flaming Lips???

(In other words, I love it so far.)

wasn't this recorded in the same studio at the same time as The Soft Bulletin or something?

i mean even the damn lead singer sounds the same. if i didn't explicitly know this *wasn't* The Flaming Lips, i would've assumed it was some high quality B side material that i'd never heard.

The first three songs here are just incredible. Some strong highlights after that too but I’m always a tad let down because that opening trio really sets this up to be a classic.

Yeah, magical opening for sure

Further fun fact, main Merc Rev dude used to play guitar for the Flips before Ronald Jones joined and the band found its supermojo. The 90s were cute that way ig

Hesitant 4.0, could jump rather quickly, though. This hooked me right away.

Instant favorites are 'Holes', 'Opus 40', and 'Goddess on a Hiway'.

This is such a step down for them in my opinion

I agree that the first 3 are the best 3 on here, but I only really love "Tonite It Shows"
