If I've only heard The Number of the Beast and want to check out more Maiden, where should I go next?

Live After Death.

Phantom of the Opera. Life changing Dylan mate.

I tend to skimp over live albums (or at least wait on them until I'm more familiar with a band's discography) but I'll make Live After Death an exception, cheers Zak.

Hating on this has been the cool thing for at least the last 5 years. I maintain that it is completely transformative listened to in the right conditions.

I can agree that it is "overrated" by the dredg fanbase (solely because my favorite is Pariah, which is actually a weak argument to call this overrated) but to me it seems pretty hard to deny that the writing is solid, the rhythm section rules and the concept is original. Also, though the CDs are annoyingly compressed, the SACD edition is some of the best sounding modern rock music you can find (... or can't, 'cause who sells SACDs)

I am no dredg fanboy...their other albums are either boring (with exception of a few songs) or plain bad. But this is just flawless. So many details but not too packed. Balanced instrumentation and a cool concept. Also the vocal performance is just rad.
