I think this is one of the albums where Trey really set himself apart stylistically.

Who shits on the Tucker era, Heretic and Illud seem to be the only albums in their discography that get shat on by a lot of people.
|

And Heretic doesn’t even deserve it!

Second best after Covenant.

that fucking siren-esque riff in prayer of hatred kicks so much ass

This is my fave Morbid Angel no cap

this would be an easy 4 if it didn't have so much nonsensical filler, several of the tracks are top tier MA (chambers of dis, invocation, nothing is not, prayer of hatred, heaving earth)

yes x1000

also, fuck it I might 4 this, even with all the filler. the best tracks of this album definitely outweigh the lows

What are actually the filler here for you? only the instrumentals or are you referring to actual songs?

Mainly the last few instrumentals. I can see Ascent Through the Spheres closing out the album after Invocation, but the 2 instrumentals after that are a strange choice. Also Hellspawn is kinda average imo
But overall definitely a very solid album \m/

Yeah, these last 2 are a bit random, all the others are great IMO. Hellspawn was the last song to re-record off their originally shelved 'abominations album. I actually like it quite a lot for it's primitive straight forward approach, riffing and the great solo, but yeah, also not my fave track on here...

I love the songwriting and musicianship here but the guitar tone irks me. It sounds like a lawnmower.

Been really digging this album lately, might have to bump.
So savage, just wish Vincent was on vocals.
Tucker gets the job done but he's soooooo monotonous.
