Did Uematsu make the FF XIII soundtrack as well?

Incredible work, they could make you a staff reviewer simply based on something of this magnitude. You described an entire game as well as 90 something odd tracks in a few freaking paragraphs, epic review.
Always fun to see where everyone's at after a few years =)

Nah that was Masashi Hamauzu, who was in and around for this soundtrack with Uematsu.
Hamauzu did some nice work on XIII, though I've seen some critics pan the soundtrack a bit.
Edit: @Irving those were the days, back when you could still do a track by track review and not get
bombarded with negs.

Hahahaha, I see. I had no idea you had been around for that long Mr Liberi, sir (also - only 996 comments since then? If you work REALLY hard you might get to 1000 before the year is out =p).
More to the topic though, I haven't heard the entirety of the FFXIII soundtrack (never having played the game nor purchased the music), but "Blinded By Light" is hands down the best battle theme since...I don't know what. It's unfortunate that the live arrangement sucks though - the strings in the "chorus" part of the song are so muted in a live setting. Shame.

I've been here since '03 baby. #scary to think about
Yeah I love Blinded By Light, when the first trailers for XIII came out with it I was so very
excited. It is probably on a par with X's soundtrack (which I gave a 3.5, and probably still would).
The highlights from it for me are:
Lightning's Theme (A piano variation of Blinded By Light, very beautiful)
Dust to Dust (Somewhat like XIII's People of the North Pole)
Serah's Theme (Has vocals, but is actually quite nice, or maybe I just like the outro to it)
The Gapra Whitewood (Nice in game field music, reminds me of Maccalania Forest or something)
Sazh's Theme
Normally character's themes (Except for Kuja's Theme from IX) are amongst my least favourite on any
soundtrack, so strange I actually enjoy most of them on XIII.

Man I envy you and your enthusiasm. I wish I'd played the game so that I'd have a basis for a.) purchasing this soundtrack and b.) properly enjoying it. Sigh - there was a time when I could quote you my favourite songs from each and every FF edition. I've been out of the FF loop after FFIX. Gotta fix that.
I wonder what Nobuo's been up to these days. He's been pretty quiet after releasing 10 Short Stories. It broke my heart when he disbanded The Black Mages. Those guys were so boss.

To be honest, after X there hasn't been much reason to stay in the loop. I couldn't afford to play
XI, nor was that keen on the concept of an online RPG. XII was a drag, and the composer made a hash
of the soundtrack. While XIII is worth playing, I wouldn't say I connected with it like I used to
with the old playstation 1 games.
Nobuo composed the soundtrack for XIV, but I haven't even listened to that at all, and the terrible
reviews the game got kind of scared me away completely. He also composed the soundtrack for The Last
Story, a Wii game, though I think its only out in Japan so far. Haven't checked that out either. I
think both have received praise though.

Love the soundtrack for this. Need to run through it again soon

"Suteki Da Ne?" is probably one of, if not my favourite song of all time, although I really can't put into words what I find so great about it.

Hell yea, this and Chrono Cross have some of my favourite video game soundtracks

not a Nobuo Uematsu album - he was one of three composers who made the music for Final Fantasy X (first one where he wasn't the sole composer)... unfortunately, this review is completely off base in giving him all the credit for this one... some of the songs are by Junya Nakano and some are by Masashi Hamauzu (he gets the credit for "Besaid" which might be my favorite track here)

Masashi Hamauzu is also the one who carried the torch and became the lead composer for the FF franchise after Nobuo left Square :]
