Saw there was some youth love going on for their first ep, nice! Yeah Bad Moon Rising, Kill Yr. Idols and Confusion is Sex are better than this record. But this short ep has more of a post-punk/youthful (pun intended) atmosphere that makes a worth while listen. Plus the added bonus tracks are awesome.

I plan on checking Confusion is Sex and Kill Yr. Idols later today

Bad Moon Rising's gonna probably be way later, but I think I'm going to go in order with Sonic Youth from now on (although I've already have heard Sister-Goo)

@Ars Yeah just go in chronological order. Each album of theirs just keeps getting better and never repeats itself. Also I wouldn't stop with their 80s albums because some of their best work lies in their albums released in the 21st century.

Yeah, no. Sonic Youth had high standards throughout their entire career but they hardly ever changed their formula after Daydream Nation's success (except some cosmetic changes)

@alter What? Ok so after Daydream they did the Ciccone album which is totally different, then went into a more commercial sounding record with Goo, a super noisy record with Dirty, then had this toned down simplistic record with Experimental, then Washing Machine established a whole other chapter in their discog with with little rocking and more focus on creating slower pieces of art. So I don't see your point plus they continued to evolve throughout the 00s.

Yeah so I said: except some cosmetic changes. They did change the accents but it was always their good ol' signature noise rock (save for maybe the Ciccone album but it was released under a different name so). Don't get me wrong, they were still far more varied than Patti Smith etc. but saying they never repeated itself? I don't know. I've been listening to them chronologically and I remember experiencing quite a bit of deja vu along the way, even some riffs and melodies seemed recycled (although I can't tell you which exactly now). Murray Street is pretty much A Thousand Leaves II, and the difference between Sonic Nurse and Rather Ripped I cannot tell at all.

Yeah I see the parallels in riffs in some songs but that happens with such a vast discography. But I think Sonic Nurse was more abstract while Rather Ripped was straight up pop record essentially. At least we can agree that Sonic Youth is a great band though so lets stop arguing and jam some noise.

The 2 Patti Smith albums I've heard aren't really too alike

@Idol Great band can't argue that

@Ars that's true but from the 80s onwards she's been making the same album all the time
