'wish chibnall gave whittaker something to do as a character bc shes a wonderful actress'

i was very hyped for whittaker, perfect casting. But again i felt underwhelmed. i think i watched all of eccleston, tennant and smith, some of capaldi and only a few episode sof whittaker

2023 Tennant was…okay? Except the resolution to the NPH episode really uh…dropped the ball.

Gatwa is a superb actor and I can’t wait to see more. Interesting that the series is trending further into magical realism and away from sci fi now, but I’ll reserve judgement til the season has aired.

god yea mort if you think papa Capaldi had bad writing I'd love to see what you make of the average Jodie episode lol. a whole era of first drafts, most of her episodes literally barely function as TV, it's straight up embarrassing some of the writing she got unfortunately. not even fit to polish 12 era's shoes, and yeah s9 is arguably the best season of the entire show. based and correct take

Tennant2 era was largely silly and clumsy as his original run was but the second special was actually really good. hope they can at least give Gatwa the occasional episode of that quality, he seems born for the role but his first episode was dogswater

Sick, sput influence spreads!

I was actually wrong, he didn't say it was an influence but the interviewer compared their sound to latter Fear Before and he says this album is one of his favorite albums. Still cool and I find there are a few thematic threads between the two albums.

“ doctor who has always been pretty "soft" scifi”

Yes, but the recent episodes (and RTD’s comments) make it seem like they’re abandoning that particular framing for the next little while. Like I said, reserving judgement — but I still think it’s a noteworthy move for a show that has always maintained at least some pretence of being sci-fi to abandon that for a more magical realist angle (even if stuff like Logopolis’ “doing math to destroy the universe” schtick was always kind of jank)

is blink not generally considered the best revival episode still? thats an alltime classic

silence in the library was also a ripper and gave ten year old me nightmares

never liked any of the cap[aldi doctor tbh, his personal portrayal was fine but i can't remember a single episode that can hold a candle to eccleston or tennant writing-wise

i clocked out about halfway through capaldi and tbh i've seen nothing to suggest a reason to come back, although i'lll try out the new guy as i thnk he has the personality to pull it off.

whole series went dangerously downhill starting with the stupid silence and crack in time arcs and never recovered, maybe this time it will be a jolt to the system

Blink is great but Heaven Sent is straight up built different. one is a good monster story and one is the most experimental story broadcast on the show that also cuts to the absolute core of the character. it's basically the thesis statement for the whole show, almost nothing else compares, tho the fact that the same guy wrote Blink tells you he's the absolute goat

would love to buy Gatwa era as a new beginning/revival but them keeping the same writer as Tennant and Tennant2 tells me to expect more cheesy soap opera shit, his first episode bears that out too. that fucking goblin song was half a step up from farting aliens in fat suits
