And it turns out that You Made It > Erase You. In terms of Chris James songs on the album

I loved Erase You, I'll probably give that other James song a listen.
I'm not sure why I've hesitated in listening to the whole thing so much.

yeah, I've decided to bump up my original rating a notch. I can't stop listening to "Seein' Thangs" and "The Tiger" in particular.

Without making any comparisons to Endtroducing this album is still slightly upsetting. It certaintly isn't bad, there are some awesome tracks like "Backstage Girl" and Keep 'Em Close" but I just can't dig the hyphy tunes. Out of the eighteen tracks I enjoy about six of them, but the songs that I enjoy are excellent. If Davis would have limited this to a twelve song album it would be much better.

I like virtually the whole album and don't think it's anywhere near as bad as it has been made out to be in certain quaters, true it dosen't stand up to Endtroducing's brilliance, not many records do, but I think a certain amount of musical snobbery has influenced many of the reviews I've read in the so called alternative press.

DJ Shadow has never been an artist that hit me enough to really want to listen to his stuff.

I almost like the first half more than the second half, for pure comedic value.

Love DJ Shadow. Admire DJ Shadow. Despise DJ Shadow?
That would be going to far, but a good half of this album is downright despicable, while most of the rest is just barely listenable. The only real keepers on this disc are This Time, Artifact, Triplicate, and Enuff. Just download these and avoid the rest. The above four would have made a superb EP.
|
| |
Enuff does not have a dense beat. Since when does having a simple 808 drum machine clap and kick constitute a fucking dense beat?
Sorry, but I'm really annoyed by the 2000's trend towards oversimplified beats with just one 808 drum machine. What the fuck happened?
|
| |
you actually think beats are more simple now than they were in the past twenty years?
|
| |
Well, I've been assaulted by way too much oversimplified stuff, and as a result am forced to conclude that, yes. And it is kind of known that the USA has a tendency to stare back at its past using a 20-year yardstick, so I'm not surprised the nu millenium productions are as simplistic as the early and mid-80s ones.
Hopefully in the 2010s, people will follow the pattern correctly and start ripping off the 1990s.
I'd love counterexamples, if you have any.

I like three songs on this and don't like anything else at all. I gotta say; I was disappointed.

What the HELL was he thinking with this? I love this dude, but maaan if this album wasnt a disappointment. Im giving it a 3 cus no Shadow record gets a 2.5 and below.

I'm addicted to "This Time," but from the looks of it, it doesn't look like the rest of the album is worth my time.
