This record is definitely more mainstream than Papa Roach's previous releases. However, I am very into it. It's still got that P-Roach flavor that first drew me to the band when they released Infest. The lead guitar work is pretty impressive here as well. There aren't any face-melting solos but it's got it's share of catchy lead parts. The biggest flaw on the record is probably the lyrics. In my opinion, they have never been a really strong point for the band, but on Paramour they seem to hit a repetitive low. Although Jacoby can pull them off probably as good as any rock singer. It seems like Papa Roach get such a bad rap (no pun intended) for being part of the dreadful "nu-metal" slew of bands to come out a few years ago, but this is just a flat out rock and roll record. i agree with that assesment 100%. it really is just a flat out good rock and roll record. i also hear some L.A. hard rock influence in it. and living in L.A. thats a good thing when done right. it has some sleaze to it.

also if you are new here your comment is actually a pretty nice "sound off". thats what we call a mini review around here and you can contribute one if you like. also check out the sputnik forum (one of many) and check into "The Writers Block" thread to say hi and ask any questions. welcome to sputnik.

EDIT: alright forget it. i see you've been here awhile. still a nice sound off, though :pThis Message Edited On 09.19.06

I have been registered for awhile but I haven't actually been on in about a year. And I've never written anything on this part of the site, just the message boards. But I'm gonna be participating a lot more now. Thanks for the welcome (back).

i say buy, yeah. its a good album just taken on its own. might surprise you a little. its tuneful, melodic, rockin, hard in places, and really just full of good well written and performed songs. if you like some Papa Roach but not all I think you'll be able to dig this a bit and find something to like about it, as others who have posted have said. This Message Edited On 12.29.06

I feel like they've lost a lot of the edge that made me really enjoy them. And Shaddix's lyrics are still extremely cheesy for the most part. All things condsidered tho, this is a pretty decent rock album and manages to get a decent amount of rotation. Crash and To Be Loved rock pretty hard.

Altough I disagree somewhat...the review was top notch. This Message Edited On 03.05.07

Good Album very different though, honestly at first I was really turned off their new image had something to do with this...and really pissed of actually but after It recieved positive reviews I decided to give it another try. Def. worth it.

Songs like Alive, Crash, Devise/Demise and No more Secrets are uplifting while Forever and The Fire are awsome.

ps I recommend The Fire.

Heavier than GAWM but not as strong, song wise. One of the few mainstream rock bands that have transitioned into something better than they originally started off as.

I think Infest is the best thing they've done. Their new stuff is pretty poor, particularly the latest single.

Getting Away With Murder (the song) is ok though.

I think that GAWM is a good overall album. The only major weak point on it was the song "Scars" which was a very weak ballad style soft rock song

Scars sucked. Hollywood Whore is awesome. To Be Loved, and Getting Away With Murder were also great singles. You can always count on Papa Roach brining a kick ass single.
