Too much obnoxious spazzy wankery. It's like the BTBAM of mastodon albs

Also never liked the production on it compared to their others. Very dry and brittle

lol, can't really argue with preference. I think it's their best. It's the vortex album. It's the most representative of where they started and where they've come. It just feels like everything funnels back into this album in a strange way.

I guess. This is definitely a hybrid between their sludgier past and the progressive emphasis that came after with crack the Skye. Problem is I prefer both of those sides of that coin better on their own than in combination. At least it's more interesting than POP mastodon (ehem hunter)

I couldn't stand Hunter at first. Grew to find it to be quite fun, though. Was a bit jolting getting off of Crack, but it began to make sense. It brought some levity into the mix.

This is probably their most schizophrenic album in their catalog but it's just so entertaining. I agree that it incorporates every element of Mastodon's sound, past and present. This was the first album I heard by them when it dropped so it has a soft spot in my heart.

Great comment guy with dodgy and presumably ironic username, I had a similar experience. I barely even listened to metal when this came out, so hearing this for the first time was mind-blowing.
