Closer is a close second. I guess I'm partial to Unknown Pleasures because it's the first album I heard from JD. Not to mention, it's the year I was born :o)

Good review have to completely disagree especially on two points

1. Peter Hook sings on Interzone

2. It's strange to call the band amateurish, they were originally a punk band they started off playing simple fast songs. They only formed a band after seeing The Sex Pistols in 76. Peter Hook had never played Bass before that and were only together for three years.

They were one of the first post punk bands slowing down songs and incorporating synths and drum machines. I'll agree with you on one point. Curtis does have a limited singing range but it fits the music.

Very good review. My favorite Joy Division album. I enjoy albums that have more simplicity. It does not matter to me that Curtis sung out of key and that the songs may seem drawn out. This is what Joy Division is.

In regards to popularity there is no doubt that 'Closer' is the winner but 'Unknown Pleasures' expresses what the Joy Division sound is in its most basic form.
