Ikey is black.

Omar and Marcel are Puerto Rican.

Jon is Haitian.

Juan I believe is Mexican, I'm not sure.

Juan Omar Marcel Cedric and Jon are all "from" south america.

But really most of them aren't acutally from there they just have heritage that goes back there.

Anyways, I guess Mexican should be Latin, but I'm a racist.

I too live in Canada, and everywhere I've checked it says the national release date is the 12th.

I listened to the first track on myspace. It was pretty bad. Still definitely going to pick this up though, nice review.

I didn't like the intro to this review. I don't care what other magazines thought about ATDI and this album. I care what you think. Everyone who clicked the link knows who this band is. Just his the point of the music. Other than that, cool beans.

How is this album in relation to Frances the Mute? Better or worse? Because if the general public thinks it's better then I might pick this up.

haha, The Mars Volta can never catch a break with Pitchfok. Its almost expected that they will hate everything that they release. All their reviews of TMV albums are hilarious though.

Did anyone notice that on this album, the songs are not divided in parts like they were on Frances The Mute. However, if you listen to some songs on Amputechture (Tetragrammaton, Day of the Baphomets, Viscera Eyes), some parts change so abruptly to a totally different one that it would of actually made more sense to divide some songs. In Frances the Mute, the song divisions didn't make sense and to me just seemed like a cheap way to look even more prog and avant-garde.

As for the album, I like the fact that there's alot less of those swoosh sounds to go into another part. I love how Cedric keeps getting better and better each album. Omar, on the other, hand is doing a little too much for his own good. Considering the magnitude of such an album, I really think he could of used someone to collaborate with, whether it be musically or production-wise. Since he wrote everything, Omar's style of playing and writing is translated onto every instrument, so the music is lacking a little flavor and personality. Also, I think Omar rips a little too much. There's way too many parts that sound like guitar exercises. I think that part of being a great songwriter is determined by your ability to notice when your inflated ego is hindering the music. De-loused is still their best album.

Not better in my opinion. Still an amazing album, though. It just doesnt have as much of that sort of Zing that FTM did.

Meccamputecture is one of my favorite TMV songs as of now.

Tied with Deloused as their best. Not a weak song on it.

I still don't know if I should bother to check this out, I only want to if it's very different from FTM, and it doesnt look like it is. alright review nig, the whole nirvana talk seemed pointless to me.

This isn't the most accessible thing in the universe, but I don't quite understand why more people don't think it's amazing.

Meh

This album is good.

However, the one thing that tends to ruin it for me is the vocals. It seems like they spent way too much time adding three part vocal harmonies that sound just silly most of the time. The production seems kind of bland as a result of being overproduced, ironically.

This feels sort of like a regression and a progression at the same time. At least "Day of the Baphomets" is amazing.

I'm not sure how the vocals could "ruin" this album any more than it "ruined" any of their other albums, since it's basically the same.
This feels sort of like a regression and a progression at the same time.
Yeah. Everyone is an expert lately, it seems. This Message Edited On 09.15.06

Yeah I guess I forgot that all the other albums are overloaded with those totally awesome harmonies.

Yes, this album is overproduced. The production takes all of the life out of the album to me. That makes it bland.

I understand that have to be a slight prick if someone doesn't like something you love. Because like, everyone's an expert lately.
