This review is a load of bollocks!!
It has been written by some narrow minded prick and him slagging them off cos one sound coulds similar to sections of pink floyds comfortably numb, does he not know about something called inspiration???
A lot of artists use this, fuck knows what he listens to, hes probably a my chemical romance fan or something.
Also Falling into Infinity is not, in my opinion the best album dream theater has done, it is probably one of their least strongest, but yet again its still a brilliant album and i would still give it a strong 8/10!
One other point i would like to make is what the fuck is peoples problem with bands writing a song with a poppy feeling or sound?? I mean come on these are a progressive rock/metal band, therefore writing pop style songs should be expected. If they were to write unusal and weird songs all the time then people would expect this therefore not being progressive, however if they do something different now and again, say something poppy then they are progressing into new areas?? anyone agree??? and also pop songs can have complicated sections. for example Hollow Years which got slated for being not very creative!! thats a load of balls. Have you tried playing that song? Yeh its not difficult to play but there are some interesting chords used, and listen to each instrument and see how the song is structured, its a poppy sounding song with progressive elements!! and also ANNA LEE, thats a poppy style ballad, but as a keyboard playing i enjoy playing it, and boy does it have some nasty reaches????
ANd slagging off Derek?? Fuck man he was the guy who played keys in A Change Of Seasons...yes that 25min master peice?? Dont go slagging him off, hes amazing and he does or used to work with yngwie malsteen. and malsteen is a knob so if he is happy with him, he must be good!!
Also i find the ratings on this site a load of crap for dream theater albums. Here are what the true ratings are.
Images and Words 10/10
Metropolis Pt2 10/10
Train of Thought 10/10
When Dream and Day Unite 9/10
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance 9/10
Falling Into Infinity 8/10
A Change of Seasons 7/10
Awake 7/10
Octavarium 7/10
Enough Said :D

I think this guy is frustrated in some way, this is a great record, you must be a really good musician to understand it, but as we look at you, you really dont know much. So i guess thats it, i think reviews are to make a constructive comments not to trash some work from a band.

You obviously aren't a progressive fan.

Progressive bands open theirselves up to many different styles of music. Falling into Infinity encompasses many of them. Also! Progressive bands have pretty long songs. Don't complain about the songs being 13 minutes long if you're reviewing a Progressive album.

Learn about what you are reviewing before you actually do so. They may not fit your standards for good songs, but in the progressive world, most of them are amazing songs.

This isn't DT's best record but it's far better than anything most other bands ever put out. Hell's Kitchen, Anna Lee, Take Away My Pain and Peruvian Skies are all some of my favourite DT tracks, the only ones on here I don't like are Burning My Soul and Just Let Me Breathe.

They had no option but to release the album as it is, their record company had a lot of say over the music. The Hollow Years solo Petrucci plays live was originally in the studio version, but was cut by the record company, who I also think forced the band to record the two music videos from this album. So even if you don't like this album, you can't blame the band entirely.

I don't think there's a single song on here that deserves under 2/5. I'd rate the majority of the tracks, listening to them on their own instead of comparing them to the rest of DT's work, at least 4/5.

god, this album is so shit, this review made me laugh however, because its so true. Why do Dream Theater play these songs live anyway, they must be convinced that the songs are good.

This isn't their best stuff, but it's definitely not their worst, that slot is for WDADU.

IMO:

I&W > SFAM > SDOIT > Awake > ToT > Octavarium > ACOS > FiI > WDADU

I like the album, it is not my favorite but it does have great tracks. Hollow Years may sound pop but it is an amazing song, and as el doctor said, when you listen to it live Petrucci comes up with incredible solos at the intro and at the main solo where he extends it (just listen to it at Live at Budokan). Hells Kitchen is a kick ass intrumently song.

I think that you rated the album in a way that you only wanted to state that it is trash, you should also state how are really the songs, like the way they are arranged, etc.

Why are so many DT fans LaBrie haters? There is really nothing wrong with his voice, particularly in Systematic Chaos where he holds back what we know he is capable of. His high notes can be awkward but i generally enjoy them.

But on this album, well, you have my agreement there..
