I've given it a few listens, maybe three of four i'd say, and its really starting to grab me. As a rage fan from back in the day, and a somewhat new soundgarden fan trying to absorb as much sound as I possibly can I can tell you this albums great. Like most i'd say that their self-titled was the best, it had equal parts guitar/vocals with just enough bass and drums to make it a masterpiece. Their sophomore album was also decent but with time it faded away. Its novelty wore off. Now with this new album, that sounds alot different from anything they've ever put out will be put through the test of time to see if it can hold up to the audioslave name. I hope it can, toms too talented to be in a dead band.

Great review for its length, i'm surprised I got as much from it that i did.

DekWannaBFlea Thank god we'll have your glorious review to look forward to...

I like how they've continued to expand there sound, and change there style. People may not like that, but the comments would be worse if they kept making the same album over and over.

This album was really not that highly entisipated, its not like its been three years since they released an album. Honestly, I'm not as excited about this as i was about Out Of Exile.

There was once a magical time when bands weren't lazy and didn't wait five years between albums. It was a magical time called every decade before the 80's. Im happy to see that Audiosalve and Cornell himself (working on a solo album already) are bringing back the hard working band.
I don't know what everyones problem is with modern bands. I bet everyone would be hating on Zeppelin, etc if they were the modern band. It seems no matter how many great riffs or catchy melodies a bands right there still no good. What does a band need to be good these days?
A great riff and catchy melody don't make a good song. Not one single thing can make a good song, it has to be a culmination of several factors. Zeppelin would not be "hated on," because the majority of their work has the culmination of several factors needed.
Now everyones saying that their first album was really good, but when it was first out the only thing people had to say was "It sounds like Rage Kareoke with Chris Cornell." I loved that album, the second one was great too I liked hearing them turning into more of a band with songs like Doesn't Remind Me which didn't sound like anything either band had done before.
Who's saying their first album was really good? Definitely not me. It does sound like Rage with Chris. They did mesh a little better on the second album, but it was still decidedly average.

Original Fire was kind of bland...but the rest of the album makes up for it. This one puts Out of Exile to shame imo.

The single off this was hella terrible.

Their first album was pretty good, but Out of Exile was awful in my opinion. I liked it for about a week, and then it just got old and boring.

I might get this, I might not. I'll have to hear some stuff on it (the only one I've heard was Original Fire, and it was awful).

Most of the songs I've heard were pretty decent until Tom Morello fucked them up with his mad soloing skillz.

Avant garde my ass. The guy sucks.

No, I think 'Original Fire' is terrible, but Revelations is a different song =)

I think that most of the solos work. Revelations and Sound of a gun are good exmples . But stuff like the Orginal Fire solo just flat out don't work. But in general he makes interesting solos that just make the song most unique and fun to listen to.

Rage will always be better in my eyes, but Audioslave can hold their own too.

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I'm a short and sweet kind of guy and I figured it best for my first review. I'm sure other's can do much better. Next time I'll add more information.
No, I think 'Original Fire' is terrible, but Revelations is a different song =)
Ah, so then, Mx. As someone who can equally hate "Original Fire", you think it's still a good album overall? Is it like their first, or second album more?

Man you've gotta love Morello's solos. They're revolutionary from any direction you look at them

Morello doesn't play the solos he does for anyone but himself. He likes them, so they keep coming. I respect that.

Stop being a fag for starters.

Listen to Morellos non effect based solos, then prepare to be schooled in the art of rock guitar soloing. He can shred/solo like a machine, but he chooses not too, and chooses to use effects to create interesting sounds. Sometimes it dosen't work out, sure, but that doesn't meen it's all bad.
