this was good not up to nola's level obviously, they don't sound a lot like each other though cause of the time difference and everything but yeah nola wins compfortably

cool review, I enjoy a lot of these songs, and the production here is my favourite of their 3 albums. I didn't know that they had whipped these songs out in a month, I think you're right that this batch of songs deserved some extra attention.

Yeah that song just sticks out like a sore thumb.
An ass kicking sore thumb, but yeah either it should be on NOLA or there should be 3 more songs like it on this record.

I really need to listen to this more often, jamming it now and regretting my comment on the IV Pt 2 thread saying the EPs were on par with this. not true, this is definitely better.

This was my first and only Down album. Really need to check out Nola.
Nice avatar Inveigh. Papa Shango used to scare the sh** out of me when I was a kid.

and dude, holy shit. you need to check out NOLA yesterday. It's my favorite metal album of all time, and blows this one out of the water.

Another good Down album, but I personally don't think it's as effective as the band's first album. Nonetheless, there are still some classic cuts here, namely "Landing on the Mountains of Megiddo" and the brilliant "New Orleans is a dying whore". Other songs here are mostly filler material for me, particularly the two short sub-2 minute instrumentals.

"you’ll probably be best off listening to ‘Down II’ in the company of Mary Jane"
I know Peter likes down, but I didn't think Mary was a fan.

I always thought this album got lost in the shadow of NOLA, but I think it really deserves more credit
