How isn't this prog tho? It pushed the boundaries pretty far when it came out.

The mindset that prog = 10 mins of scale runs, jazz influenced key changey metal is pretty limiting. Prog in itself is a mindset/philosophy, not a genre. Just like "technical metal" isn't a genre but an umbrella term to refer to bands who make techy music.

Pretty much ^^ for me I played Oceanic a lot before I first heard panopticon. So that album has a soft spot.

I played oceanic a lot before this. then I got really into this and basically forgot about oceanic. then one day after a huge ISIS hiatus, I put on oceanic and it blew me away, had no idea why it wasn't one of my fav albums
