I don't understand how so many people worship this album. It's annoying, grating and uninteresting.

i thought the same thing at first. in my case there is something captivating about this when taken in as a whole. the lyrics are vague in their own sort of way but they project a personal connection that is enhanced by the mood that is created by the simplistic nature of the music.

"Unfortunately lyrics aren’t the main reason why I listen to music and I’m sure most of you reading this wouldn’t consider an album good just because of its lyrical content."
I've always felt that way too. my only exceptions are with nick drake, joy division, and neutral milk hotel. it's because these are guys are the real deal and only open their mouths when they have something really meaningful( to them atleast) to say. as far as lyrics go, those songwriters will always be it for me.
good review, though I do disagree on a few other points.

I am tempted to actually listen to this.
The fact it is a running joke with every anti-hipster sentiment I have ever read has always made me not bother.

I think that song is probably my least favorite, actually, I don't get the big deal behind that line, there's so so so many better ones.

Same brah, its kinda the same thing with For Emma, which I thought was a classic for awhile. I definatly see why people consider it to be a classic and it has some of those amazing moments (Two Headed Boy 1 & 2 and Ghost) and for Bon Iver (Wolves, Blindsided, Re: Stacks) but there aren't enough of those moments for me.

it's not accessible at all, it's probably some of the most difficult music i've ever heard

are you serious, the chords, phrasing and rhythms are all so listener-friendly. it's the easiest to get into of all the "sputnik classic" albums i've heard. the only thing that's difficult is his voice

Well the music is led by the vocals.
And maybe its just cause I didn't listen to anything like this back then.

yeah and his voice is kind of a big part of the album.

by difficult i mean that the emotional content is probably more than some people could handle
