Must check this, I completely forgot it was released last week.

Their last album was an immediate winner for me, and after my first listen I'm not super into this. Maybe it'll click after a few more tho

Same.. maybe i'm missing something. The Dvne "parts" are there but it was very unmemorable for me. I'm also not convinced the cleans are good. I don't mind clean vocals but there's something off-putting about Dvne's and they feel much more prominent on this release.

yea the cleans still suck. very strained sounding. i can’t think of any moment in their discog that is elevated by them tbh

album art is sick, I never got around to jamming that 2021 release I should hit this

Think Asheran is my favorite, but all three LPs are very comparable quality. Great band.

I agree you have to settle into the cleans. Something about them is grating

Wonderful record, as all their albums are. Saw them on Tuesday on the first date of the tour and they played a good chunk of the album along with a couple Etemen classics. New stuff sounded great live. Lisan al-Gaib!

Not only do the cleans not bother me, I like them. They’re pretty distinctive and fit their sound.

The best part about Asheran is all the soaring cleans that are kinda straining into harsh-ish territory. It felt like the last album didn't do that much and leaned more into full on harsh vox. Voidkind is more of a balance between the approaches.

Wtf. Cleans are cool af. Lol These type of bands only do screams these days. It doesn't bother me but its cool The Ocean and these guys are turning the waters a bit.

This might grow on me but I remember being awestruck by Etemen Aenka on first go, and this didn't have those sort of jaw-dropping moments like the impact of Enuma Elis or the Asphodel/Satuya build
The cleans are kinda mid, but aiming for prog over postmetal in the mix hurts more: it makes a lot of these songs lose their punch. This feels competent instead of genuinely special, at least on first listen. But I'll give it a few more spins because EA ruled

"The cleans are kinda mid, but aiming for prog over postmetal in the mix hurts more: it makes a lot of these songs lose their punch."
I dunno, think that benefits them because for me they didn't completely nail the monolithic post-metal sound anyway, particularly from a prod / dynamics standpoint. EA certainly has more of an emphasis on heaviness, yet those moments are highlighted here in ways which aren't so fatiguing. Idk EA is a tiring 'one-note' listen at times despite how much supposed variation there is. This achieves a better balance
also if we call this a prog album I can be kinder to it, as the 'standard' is lower, lol

EA is their worst tbh
