this is a little less good than i thought when it came out but it still fucks. slow sour bleed has grown on me a lot
flipside is i do not like rumor of light anymore : / jesse PLEASE stop writing vocal passages that are only the first three scale degrees (i.e. everything other than the chorus) it is the one area i am incapable of meeting you halfway. i do not want another erra repackaging of hot cross buns. as a result i kinda feel like this doesnt find its footing until idle wild. sans pale iris it's all smooth sailing from that point though

yeah i've also been kinda thinking rumor of light is the weakest track lately
i generally like all these songs but feel like it only really hits its stride starting at glimpse. pale iris has grown on me and i think is a good penultimate track. wave is also really good now that i've jammed it a few times in isolation.
first half by comparison is just kinda meandering to me though still good

yeah glimpse onward is where the magic really unlocks itself but i love idle wild. i was actually afraid this album was growing off me on the whole because of how disengaged i am by rumor now but once idle wild drops those harmonics on me i'm back home
i have only jammed this with blue reverie as the penultimate since release date and i love it there and in general lol. if that was the second to last song the whole run from glimpse through the end would be an all timer erra stretch for me

yeah ngl im open to the idea of bumping this up again but atm i am not really feeling the 4.5. without rumor and pale iris it would be though, and glimpse is still one of their best

Gonna give S/T a spin though. Augment & Impulse are really good musically they've just never clicked for me, never been huge on Jesse's vox either despite him being clearly being extremely talented

glimpse is pretty far and away the best here. may have my favorite usage of harmonics in any non electric twilight erra song
the end is so cool too i love the way they have the guitar harmonies swirl around each other and phase in and out of which part is being emphasized before bringing up only the third at the end, which generally is absent from the part. it's so sick to me

I'm kinda curious what the general consensus of this album is outside of sput. All i know is i really like the production here, and hope they don't shy away from working with the same person in the future

a lot of their fans have been pretty hard on it, i think a little unjustifiably so. i remember tuning into their reddit on the night this dropped and seeing a lot of people essentially saying they sanded away everything that made the self titled good, which feels like an over exaggeration to me when this record still has stuff like wave and idle wild on it lol
i can't really tell whether they're gonna stuck with dan or not since they've changed producers with every album since jt joined but i wouldn't be opposed
