Is early drake really worth checking out? I know him and The Weeknd are pretty influential in that scene, and I love House of Balloons (and the whole trilogy tbh) and his last two records were pretty damn good too.

It's hard to say how worth it checking out Drake's earlier stuff is in 2024. Like, it's clearly a much higher level of quality than his post-views material but a lot of my enjoyment was also tied with how ubiquitous it was at parties and on the radio.



If you like House of Balloons, I think Take Care is probably worth checking out as the weeknd helped a good amount on that project. If You're Reading This It's Too Late is his best rap stuff for sure. Everything else is kind of a mixed bag but "Hold On We're Going Home" and "Tuscan Leather" off of Nothing Was The Same are gold

Most people are content with just enjoying boring music because they have no idea how to dig passed the surface and find anything not fed to them by social media or television/radio. Or they don’t have the desire to and are content resting on whatever they know and will claim to “love music” while having a Spotify top5 of Taylor Swift, Drake, The Weeknd, Beyoncé and Post Malone.

Or worse, Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, Noah Kahan, The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons

Their banjoist has his own culture war show now after he left the band. If you've heard any right-wing pundit in these same spaces, you know exactly what his positions are.

Also agree with Odal. I suppose it all depends on how the music moves someone. Millions are/ were moved by Mumford & Sons' music and that's obviously genuine and sincere. Same as many other artists that are popular. I don't think it means that love of music is any less real.

For real. I was reading some comments under a post about Imagine Dragons' new single and one of them was like "this will be perfect for a gym workout."

I could totally get that. I don't listen to their music much but I could totally get how that energy and lyricism would get someone hyped during a workout.
