Hopefully he decides at some point to put on Spotify or even on YouTube
|
| |
he wont. his stance on streaming platforms has been clear for a while and hes right about them. just buy it on bandcamp.

Nah I don’t want to own music on like 5 different platforms.
Also he has other albums on Spotify, doesn’t he?

I could buy his whole discog, easy
Oh wait it’s like €18 just for a DIGITAL copy of Pool. Nope
|
| |
I’m old school. Physical copies should be priced like that, not digital
|
| |
Skee Mask’s pricing means you’re either a super-fan who prioritises his work over basically anything else or you’re rich af. Very limiting vs the market.
There needs to be sensible compromise. Spotify ain’t it. Artists charging physical prices for digital ain’t it either. Surely the cost of materials dictates that digital should be significantly cheaper? Makes sense but doesn’t seem to be the case for many artists who stay off streaming platforms
|
| |
I guess this guy thinks he’s the 1% of the 1%. Only way this will work. Like Joanna Newsom… (who imo is worth it)
And maybe it does WORK?!
…just a shame that so many people will see the pricing and pirate instead, because he’s eliminating a lot of his potential fanbase by charging so much. This is music for ‘no poor people allowed’ and yeah once it was always like that, I’m old enough to know you bought your music physically but in a digital age there should be an ‘in-between’ like I said before
|
| |
if I had £100 budget p/m to buy music (possible), I still wouldn’t go near it in other words. I’d go for physical or top tier ‘wants’. And I really like this guy’s music. Top 5% for sure, so that’s what he’s up against
A lot of people wouldn’t even have half of that, other priorities like paying bills
Middle class music.

Idk bro, I paid for Pool along with 6k+ other people on Bandcamp so its clearly working for him. It would probably cost around the same to see him live so its not a big deal. Artists need to know their worth these days since these streaming companies aren't paying anything.

He also released A, B and C at name your price which is pretty much giving 3 albums away
|
| |
I mean yeah if it’s working for him then cool I guess. That’s capitalism for you.
I just don’t understand why digital often costs so much vs physical, relatively. It should be half the price, at least
If it was significantly less than physical more people would pay and streaming would be less prominent
There’s also support from people who can clearly afford it whereas some people really can’t (even myself who isn’t ‘poor’ can’t allocate such sums for digital copies, if I was to do it I’d need physical at a minimum).
