This feels like her most adventurous effort, which is slightly weird, considering where the origins of the whole previous debate spawned from. It certainly isn't 'safe' in the context of what went before
It's going to be a while till I can form a proper ranking of her material overall tho
I've only heard 'Dragon' by Big Thief which initially peaked at 'inconsistent / mild appreciation', yet would be willing to explore further

Two Hands is just a fun jam record. Good songs but not all that ambitious. I really like it for that though because the band just play so well together. UFOF is a little more ambitious than that one.

can't get into this... definitely some very sincere and heartfelt lyrics, but the sound doesn't get me engaged at all

I think folk artists in the modern day need a unique voice or some kind of distinct quality to resonate with people and not be written off as generic/bland/boring. whereas with genres with rap people seem to just appreciate quantity sometimes. artists are viewed as falling off if they wait 2 years between releases. why this thought inspires such visceral anger in people on the last page is beyond me

Okay, it’s becoming apparent that Lenker blossomed into something greater on “Songs” and this is an impressive reinvention / completely separate yet equally(?) as impressive, perhaps more so in some regards
I do like bits of Abysskiss and the ‘Buck Meek material’, but it wasn’t necessarily my bag on the whole. The debut struggled to keep my attention tbh

Hmm, started listening to AL last Thurs and I've already passed 250 scrobbles, wow
Songs is top, then this, then Abysskiss (unsurprisingly)
This is getting close to Songs level, perhaps surpassing it even. A really satisfying balance of the delicate, softer, heartfelt touches you'd expect and unexpected injections of energy / contrasting tangents. Great song-writing variety and yet perfectly cohesive
I honestly cannot overstate how completely absurd some of the arguments against this I've read here. I get the 'nothing new' critique with some of her material, but not this one. This is not run-of-the-mill in any way, shape, or form imo

We lay around for hours,
Talk about childhood pain,
Mom and dad and past lives too,
I can tell you anything
