Defenders just runs out of steam in the 2nd half. The first 4 songs are probably the strongest 1 to 4 in their entire discography.

idk, Love Bites and Some Heads are two of my faves. but Night/Heavy Duty/Defenders is kind of a weak ending, yeah.

Sad Wings is crazy overrated, never got into that one

[2] but It's just a taste thing I think, can definitely see how some would revere it.

I’m only 33 so I was nowhere near being around for any of their classic periods but me and my mates were given so much shit when we were 18 and obsessed with this band.
Warms my heart to see them get such a good response with this record.

I wish I'd had mates for this early on. I found Priest by punching in the title of a song I wrote when I was 11 ("Law Breaker") into iTunes and guess what popped up.

Painkilla is #1 no contest

but Stained Class and Sad Wings are the other albums in that top 3
Sad Wings definitely
I could never get into Stained Class and I've tried many times

"I could never get into Stained Class and I've tried many times"
FUCKING SAME. I just don't get it. Sin After Sin and Sad Wings both kick it's ass.

Painkiller #1, Sad Wings #2, ranking of the rest could change depending on my mood at the time
|
| |
personally, Painkiller isn't even in my top 5 Priest albums, and I kind of wish it didn't have such an influence on all the albums that came after. I loved that their earlier albums for the most part all had their own distinct vibes, but now it's sorta just Painkiller 2, Painkiller 3, etc.
Obviously still good records, and as it's been said many times already, hugely commendable considering their age.
