I hate to agree with my mortal arch enemy bellovddd, but even as a hip-hop fan I consider Kanye mostly irrelevant these days. All the controversy aside (and it’s pretty hard to ignore some of it), nothing he’s done in the last half decade has been remotely influential, nor approached the highs of his early and mid career. I think it’s time we stop pretending otherwise and let him fade into his inevitable status as a legacy act. The best thing for both ye and hip-hop as a whole is for ye to go quietly into that good night now lol.

i don’t think sputnik users understand the difference between not liking someone and that person being irrelevant

You jest, but I cannot imagine what the hell someone would think if this was their on ramp to Kanye lmao

"fantano seems genuinely unhinged im worried for him, somethings been off about him for like a year or so at this point"
the divorce definitely shook him
|

I have never intentionally listened to a Kanye West song so maybe I'll use this as an on-ramp, for science

Please report back with this vital info

I’ve actually only have ever heard his big hits and Yeezus. I am kidding tho, maybe I’ll just check out his older less n@zi shit.

Honestly, he has as much attention and hype as he does for a reason. People shift what "Old" Kanye was all the time, but I've truly enjoyed every album other than Jesus is King. If you're gonna get into his stuff at all, start from the beginning. It's truly wild going back to College Dropout knowing what he would become lol

I actually probably will, but for right now this guy is like a fucking madtv sketch. This ig post of him at the airport talking about his wife… with the fucking teeth lmfao

Kanye is honestly just a step or two below the greats

scratch that I actually did jam Kids See Ghosts back in the day and dug that so maybe I really will get into Kanye West in the year of our lord 2024
I completely forgot about that little record. I really really liked it.

Honestly, a large part of Kanye's appeal throughout his career has been his candor and humor. Really sucks that it's lead him to some dark rhetoric and he's really troubled because the man could legitimately be a comic in another life. He's legitimately hilarious.

watching someone react to this. it sounds like he took a folder of wip beats and just mashed them together without regard for structure/dynamics/etc cept for moments where it sounds like the needles skipping into a loop. for all the shit going around leading into this albums release it really feels like it has nothing to say lyrically, even tys lines just feel like if someone prompt an ai to 'write generic 2010s hiphop lyrics.'

@jr
this is a pretty tame thread all things considered…
