Yeah carl not for me this one. 2 albums I've found that bring the riffs in 24 are Domination Campaign - A Storm of Steel and Blood Red Throne - Nonagon m/

Really good album imo. I think this does the Gothenberg Melodeath sound slightly better than the Majesties album from last year.

still have to find a decent us american mdm band, starting to suspect there is none.
|

okay opener slaps

I sent this to a few of my buddies who were all craving the old gotherberg sound and they are really digging it.
This thing doesn't really blow me away, but I'm really it exists. It's fun. It rips. It isn't criminally overproduced, which is the biggest sin the metal world is committing, so I'm sure it'll be in my rotation for a while

@Muzz cheers, will give those a spin. I always trust your judgment when it comes to mdm m/
@Flug check their other band, Vaelmyst. way fresher mdm
@Odal my thoughts exactly. its just fun, inoffensive (well maybe not to some...) gothenburg worship

Garden of Shadows? Vehemence? Estuary of Calamity/Estuary? There's more than just 'none' lmao

to add on to what Davey said, check Idolatrous as well. their debut from last year was massive and Muzz wrote a great review on it

Arsis

Actually now that I mention Garden of Shadows, all these retro throwback melodeath bands should make more stuff like Oracle Moon instead of trying to rip off Gothenburg bands, that would rule I think

new Arsis when??
seconded Davey. I need to give that Garden of Shadows album a spin again, it used to not be on Spotify but is now.

Oracle Moon is one of my favorites in the genre, it’s such a magical album. Check their Heart of the Corona EP as well if it’s there too, it’s just as good.

Just listened to this album and also binged a bunch of other recommendations from this thread:
Upon Stone - Dead Mother Moon: Decent but fairly forgettable. Will probably give it a 2nd listen and see if it sticks better
Vaelmyst: Bounced off the first few songs I heard pretty hard but will give them another shot
Domination Campaign - A Storm of Steel: Some good to great sections mixed in with some head scratching-ly bad parts
Blood Red Throne - Nonagon: Solid but doesn't really even come close to scratching that gothenberg itch
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon: Wow this fucking slaps so far, more of this please. It's almost like old In Flames mixed with Be'lakor
|
| |
OK Oracle Moon might legitimately be one of the best melodeath albums I've ever heard. Sincere thanks for that recommendation

Garden of Shadows also rocked Sean Beasley on bass, who went on to play in Dying Fetus. DMV metal scene is lowkey underrated

Glad you liked Oracle Moon, it really is a wonderful album.
