they have some of the playful chin-stroker bait that a band like Battles include
they have some of the stoner silliness of a band like Clutch and like their goofy mannered vocals and often very specifically focused concept lyrics close to what you might get in prog
I guess they're a bit bigger than both of those bands were at the peak of their popularity but if they're massively more popular then that passed me by

If you've started hearing actual lyrics beneath the dying plant impression he does with every other vocal inflection, there may be no saving you

Johnny, it's funny defending this band a bit because maybe 60% of their releases I've heard I haven't much time for at all
this one powers along for me and it just clicks, I also like the most prog one (I think, most prog I've heard from them anyway) 'Polygondwanaland' (uh) which is a turn up as usually I'd fear that emphasis with this sort of band, the other thrash one is alright too.

@asleep As a bird user my feathers are almost always ruffled, you're fine! I'm still learning how to properly write a negative review and I wanted to use levity and jokes to soften the criticism a bit, but I definitely overdid that when a better exploration could have serviced the review better. I'll gigure it out with more reviews!
@johnny lmao I did that with Tash Sultana
@doofdoof I've probably only listened to about a quarter of their discog, I generally like their more Sabbathy stuff, their music is too sleepy for anything this high energy

Call me a junkie, cause if I could get a prescription for “low E” I’d abuse that shit too

‘they have some of the playful chin-stroker bait that a band like Battles include‘
Battles have a very convincing handle of their craft, sonically, structurally etc. Their understanding of rhythm and composition at their peak goes way beyond whatever retro-loving, aping yet ‘competently performed’ genre-tourism these guys throw out there. There’s really nothing impressive about what these guys do outside of genre-hopping and being ‘fun’ or whatever. To suggest the Gizz write engaging music is one thing, but they are not a band ‘for proper music fans or musicians ahead of regular folk’ (like, what?)… in fact I bet my ass no significant artists will arise citing them as an influence in the near future (keep receipts if you want to)
Their legacy will be very very limited in music history terms

yeah I don't think I was arguing that ;)
I just thought they might be the sort of band music nerds and 'fellas in bands' might like - not Yngwie Malmsteen
They're not The Strokes! (wrong chat)

If part of your daily routine is writing mini paragraphs about why this band is bad, you definitely have a fulfilling life. Page 3 was fucking gold, let’s keep it going

Fair point it is embarrassing that I've put more thought into this than King Gizz did
@frozenfirebug lmao if I had healthy music opinions I would't have the energy to hate this enough to listen to it three times

What if I find analysing music fulfilling? (even stuff I’m not a fan of). I’m guessing others feel the same

No you said "this > slayer"
So, either you're comparing an entire discography to one album, in which case fair I guess but you still have one Slayer album rated higher than this, or you're saying KG&tLW is a better band than Slayer in which case I'd suggest listening to "Fishing for Fishies"
