Vault tracks are pretty good

Her delivery on the second verse of style really lost whatever x factor the original had :/
I know the angle Swift is pushing with these rerecordings isn't "nostalgia" really, but i think a lot of these tracks suffer from a need to insist upon themselves- i remember when every other thing on the radio sounded like this pretty clearly, and i don't miss it that much!

"Is It Over Now?" and "Suburban Legends" are both great and IMO carried by the strength of Taylor's writing. It seems like with every release of hers I'm initially unimpressed and then grow to appreciate it -- even with Midnights, which at first I would have ranked down with her debut LP, but that I now realize has some of her best lyrics to date.

Could not care much for the vault tracks in this, I fear. Good review.

tempted to actually check this one as this is maybe my fave taylor era... but gf said this one is actually noticeably different/worse than the og so i think i'm gonna pass

excellent timeline going on here: the fan aggregates anticipated a Sowing review based on his ratings and the blowback (about as minor as they come tbh) is now in session: https://twitter.com/missamericana96/status/1719206604657344977

I've read what she's doing here is causing labels to restrict artists even further in their contracts by putting stipulations like decades need to pass before their music can be reworked or rerecorded or something like that.
|
| |
Yeah, I was reading about that yesterday - saw also that some artists (eg Olivia Rodrigo) had taken the initiative to negotiate ownership of their masters following this, so looks like it'll pan out ambivalently. Could maybe see artists' rights to their masters being normalised at an indie level, but fresh signees to major labels are probably going to be (even more) shafted for some time to come

someone posted (i'd venture to say the same article you guys are talking about) in her subreddit and there was some i n t e r e s t i n g back in forth there, including an ardent defense that taylor doing this shows that she's actually a socialist
i'd post a link but it seems like it was removed/i can't find it anymore

Taylor is like the opposite of a socialist. It’s so sad that stans hate and somehow deny how hyper capitalist their views and behaviors are.
