Well, I'm glad the hype train didn't lead you astray, Sowing!
I suspected this would be love at first listen for you.

Well there it is. If I have one criticism of this album it’s that it’s a little one-note, but that note is of unrelentingly lovely mid-tempo indie. This is like a whole album of Here Is Wheres. Maybe one of the most consistent albums I’ve heard. Doesn’t hit as many highs as TDDB maybe (although even then it comes close), but there’s also a lot less meandering here—this is straight up song after song of lovely melodies and lyrics and it never lets up. Lovely, lovely stuff.

I got a VPN to Australia and listened on a YouTube playlist that was really compressed and not great but I couldn’t wait until midnight. I imagine I’ll pick out a lot more dynamics when I listen at good quality.

goodness me, the hype is real
this whole thing is a massive love letter, wrapped in seasonal analogies, and laced with the insecurities of aging. it’s very well considered, and it -sounds- like it’s ten years on from TDDB in the best way
there’s plenty that can go awry with this kind of post-rock flavoured indie, but the line is straddled nicely. I’m not missing the sheer catharsis of ‘river’ like I thought I would be
standouts after the first spin are: holding back the dark, something borrowed, classic movies (just noticed the “dreamed ourselves awake” callback to so stay close), but second city setting sun really blew me away. the dawning realisation that those mounting conversations about old friends and family dying will one day be about you and your loved ones, against those fantastic strings, yeah that’s killer.
and bloody mary is a beautiful closer, that parting sentiment of “whatever this life brings, at the end of everything, I want to hear you sing” rocked me
it was worth the wait

Something Borrowed’s chorus only gets better with every listen. And it’s made even better with the way Old-time Tuned sets it up. It nicely mirrors Your House Was Aglow into South Street in the way of a soft acoustic song leading into a beautiful driving rocker.

A 4.8 average on 14 ratings - not too shabby!
And yeah, anat, can't really argue with any of that.

I have to come back to say this is the most perfect follow-up to TDDB I could have ever possibly imagined or asked for. I'm overjoyed that this exists.
