fwiw none of the acts the op has in those brackets are underground
and i do sympathise with wanting to support the underground regardless of opinion, but not with the idea that high sputnik ratings are a reliable mark of relevance or that hard work should automatically be rewarded with artistic respect
but mainly I'm just grateful to have found this shoutbox gem:
"Now, given that this is clearly an alt account (formed 8 years ago, sub 800 comments), I would probably be better off not feeding the troll but sod it. Some advice for you. Projection is really unhealthy. You come into a randomer's shoutbox, comment on their music taste off a tiny sample, claim I have "no mates" with no personal information on me whatsoever, and tell me I'm struggling. It sounds as though somebody else is in a dark place, I'd recommend talking to someone."

is this the clown who got publically named and shamed on discord for having a dumbass meltdown in marsbro's shoutbox over soundoff upvotes

"but you have other 1’s and 2’s of albums that people liked. Why not this one"
Those are reserved for very popular artists only LOL.

"Upstanding human ^^^ bless"
Thanks bro, even if I have immense flaws, as we all do, I'm really grateful for this amazing compliment. Thank you, for real.

Thanks Johnny, indeed it is that way. I mean, you're a staff reviewer, it is different for you guys, it is your job to be as objective as music can allow you to be.
What was the drama with that dude? I honestly wanted to give him a hand, but he kinda took it as an insult. I guess I came out like a creep or a bully, I really don't know.

Anyways, back to music. This band reminded me (the theme) of SpiritWorld and Justified (the series)... man I need to watch that again, it was soooo underrated!

i've been thinking this one over for a few days. i recognize that judging this album by what came before it is not entirely fair because each album should be judged on its own merits and its intent, but i just can't get away from the shift between A Romance With Violence and this album
what i ultimately struggle with most is american gothic's transformation of wayfarer's sound from an album that cohesively sounds like a winding, weaving western epic to one that feel like a group of thematically connected but unrelated songs. The Crimson Rider Pt 1, Masquerade of the Gunslingers and Vaudeville all feel like western epics entirely contained within themselves, but also forming a grander narrative. that is in direct contrast to American Gothic where each song has more of a singular identity (and frustratingly, that identity is really difficult to differentiate outside of To Enter My House Justified and False Constellation). most songs gallop along at a mid tempo with a lightly western-tinged rhythm section - in isolation a novel sound, but taken against the heights the band has risen to before, it sounds like the album that should have come before ARWV - not after
i was really excited for this album and to see the evolution their sound would take, but no matter how i look at it it just comes away like a regression to me

Certified fuckin banger! Even better than A Romance With Violence. Such a great blend of western/Americana with atmo-black metal. The scream vocals are great and the cleans are fucking awesome too.Eulogy for High Plains is fucking amazing as well as Black Plumes over God's Country, I think those 2 might be my faves. But front to back this album is nearly flawless

For what it's worth, I've never heard any of their albums before this one and it still came off kind of boring

First half is pretty meh, but it's overall a solid addition to the catalogue.

Interesting to call this one less dynamic, think this one is way more memorable in individual songs but the previous one felt more like a cohesive epic saga.

'Reaper on the Oildfields' and the closing track in particular are the highlights here. This is probably their best in terms of variety.
Still just a 2.5 as usual, sadly :[

I just feel like this is a little bit weaker than the previous. The previous felt a lot more cohesive than this one that goes all over the board. Like either go full gimmick and embrace it fully or do something more coherent and use the gimmick when it feels useful.

I don’t know any of this bands other material but really dig this and I’m glad to have found it, I thought Panopticon’s record was kinda underwhelming but this is some good shit, really filled the void for new bm to me at least
I’ll have to check their earlier records for sure

‘World’s Blood’ and ‘A Romance with Violence’ are the only ones worth checking, the latter of which is the best of the bunch.
