Yeah I don't think this is the worst she's ever done, just disappointing.

Poppy is a meme artist and good/bad has never been the most relevant axis
This is sure as shit less useless than Flux, even if it's probably worse on most levels

Went through it twice and The Attic is the only one worth coming back to. And that may only be because I'm a sucker for Amen breaks

def agree in an objective sense; her music for me is either catchy/engaging or not, and this is not

Poppy is a more interesting name than the music is interesting

The psychedelic aspect was one of the best parts of I Disagree but now that's sort of subdued. Songs like Church Outfit and Motorbike should be the entire album.

I was literally about to tell you to head to the Poppy thread from the SB thread
lol

Probably not gonna listen to this, but Poppy is one of the few music artists I'd actually simp for. Very pretty lady.

This is a little more like her older stuff, electronic pop and darker like AIAG but more psychedelic like what she started doing in 2019. She's still evolving. I would like to hear an album in the positive style of poppy.computer again though. That is actually one of my favorite Poppy albums.

After a few more listens, this is still a very mixed bag. I am surprised a few songs managed to grow on me -like the hard-hitting 'Flicker' and the electro-pop fun of 'Motorbike'- but so many tracks here are still melodically forgettable, lyrically inarticulate and barely manage to cross the 2:20 mark.
This could have been an EP with just 5-6 of the best songs and it'd be better for it.
Considering there's supposedly a second album -called 'Zag', allegedly- coming soon, here's hoping there's better material ahead.

also, her cover of 'Spit' is possibly her best release of the year and I was crossing my fingers that THAT would be the direction she took with 'Zig'
oh well

@Panos I immediately wanted to hear more after hearing this, more than I usually would feel when listening to a new Poppy album, so maybe she lined it up that way.

Spit is certainly her best release of the year, there's no competition
|

Agree that "Spit" clears everything on this, but I like this album more than most it seems.
This is just a really solid collection of tunes that kinda grounds all the different sounds she's played with over the last few years into something she can call her own and build off of
