new again is a mess, gets pretty bland sometimes (if yall wanna call the 2014-2016 stuff generic and stand by that record in particular then lmfao) and has a ton of holes on it but its above this and self titled for sure. most of the better songs from those sessions are bonuses but the main tracklist has a few good jams too, including sink into me

error operator isnt bad in isolation but it makes like no sense in the context of the record. textbook soundtrack cut crammed in for the sake of it. hooks kinda annoying too



not huge on twenty twenty either. rest is heat. sleep and brooklyn are huge essentials tho would take them over everything but my blue heaven at this point

production really kneecaps tayf and i feel like it doesnt really come together as an album all that well, largely in part bc some of the stuff the band wanted got shelved in favor for a few tracks that sound like they wrote them in minutes. head club is particularly a terrible closer and lets the record down pretty badly



dont think their chemistry was fully locked in really either. i love tf out of john (more than i do adam tbh) but he and adam sound much more together and purposeful on something like happiness is for instance vs tayf. ghost man on third is one of their very very best tho, and i do still fw it for nostalgia purposes, but the extreme allegiance to it vs intense animosity towards their later work has always been a little silly to me lol, particularly as someone with large adoration for some of the later stuff

Interesting, I've never heard people bring up the production as a con before but that is something I've felt ambivalent about with WYWTB. I get the album has some real low points too, bike scene fucking blows, but have you considered pretty much every other songs fucking slaps?

wywtb sounds pretty rough at points too but with tayf its specifically that infamous ringing tinny feedback sound that can be heard a lot throughout the record that unfort outright gives me a headache lol. i like how the clean guitar parts sound tho the start of great romances is stunning

Yeah, I was reading some of the posts on the tayf thread. I already have mild tinnitus so maybe I'm just immune. Or maybe it caused it? 🤔 they also made like ten different versions of the album so maybe i just got lucky with a different mix?



Great romances in general is just amazing. Also v big on Timberwolves, arguably better than cut from the team and you're so last summer.

timberwolves was my first tbs song so i got a lot of love for it. really killer bridge on that
