i love it. though the only impact DFW has had on my writing that I can consciously trace is going "and so but anyway then but and when but so and" to signify stream-of-consciousness

mad weed vibes, i was a big fan of the straight dialogue that left (a little) room for inference (and then i read the big bae William Gass)

There is time just try not to die! Yes, Gass is amazing. Have a hoon on Omensetter's Luck to peep the natural talent at work, and then hit The Tunnel which is an absolute all timer that tries to do it all. While we're at it, his criticism/academic stuff is great too

“ Infinite Jest is overhated (but not underrated?) and very very good.”
Agreed. One of my favourites. I think some people get so caught up in the style and respond to that over the huge amounts of emotion and pain. Like, when people call it pretentious, i wonder if they’re ignoring all the humanity to lash out against some perceived air-of-superiority because “big words” (that you often don’t need to know the definitions of anyway) and “big paragraphs.” Which, if so, i think that fits many of the themes of the book and many of its characters

“ Don’t pretend like you read books”
I only read braille

Reading Sputnik in braille is twice as upsetting, I assume.
