Rock is (mostly) dead aye
And I don’t think this is spoken word. It’s a sort of post-punk ish half talking sort of delivery that’s fairly common, I guess

depends on your definition of rock tho I imagine

I don’t agree that people are harsher on newer releases. If anything, the opposite due to recency bias
I don’t really listen to rock so doesn’t affect me. If you include metal in rock then yeah, recent metal is god awful
And you can say it’s on me, but bro I don’t see even stuff that isn’t my taste that is good. For example I can’t really stomach radiohead but I can respect it and am impressed by it regardless. I haven’t seen anything near that level of quality or countless other releases from the 2000s. It’s not about taste man it’s about quality. And I have the empirical evidence to back me up while all you got is people are harsher on new releases lol

Half talking is spoken word imo

im rly not interested in how the consensus has changed, it def has, but being able to respect something even if you dont like it comes down to taste as well.
how is it not about taste lol the last 10 yrs have been my favorite for music except for the 90s probably, im sure plenty of people would agree bc its all subjective

there's so much incredible music being released these days
last decade ruled for music

This guy said there's been no good bands since Radiohead LMAO

Ofc it’s about taste and subjective. I’m more talking from an outside/“trying to be objective” standpoint. The fact that music has shifted more towards indie and folk obviously is not in my favor lol

Didn’t say that at all fowl. That’s either some pisspoor reading comprehension or just not even trying

Trying to be objective in music taste is a fruitless perspective be radically subjective

well in that case i find it a pointless/uninteresting discussion to have, we're talking about the consensus of two niche internet communities and i dont see the point in trying to reason about that in any objective way. i dont really like anything ive seen on the top of the rym charts in the past few years but i think thats just due to the changing demographics of the site. similarly around here, most of the top of the charts are sput-metalcore that i have no interest in.
none of that has anything to do with the "quality" of music being released nowadays, all i know is theres so much great new stuff that ive loved

Trust me Brodie I’m also not scouring to top charts of review websites for recs

My subjectivity leads me towards breaking every detail of music down so it turns into relative objectivity at some point fowl

I’m lowkey jealous ryus. But then again I’d have to start listening to indie and folk and could never look my friends in the eye again

nah listen to electronic and hip hop and you will find a bounty

Album Rating: 2.5
Yeah I’ve been digging some recent hip hop. Can get into electronic but nothing recent has really wowed me aside from 1000 gecs. Ig recent should be in quotes but that’s what I’m workin with lol

Wish I could get more into hip-hop, definitely a bounty (2) in the various wide-ranging forms of electronic music tho.
I still listen to new metal but am very selective, same with indie, rock and metalcore unless it seems different to the norm
Black metal is jank generally but the more recent avant-garde / completely detached-from-BM-origin stuff can be pretty cool
Death metal is a an old fave but my god does it repeat itself ad nauseam, so rarely does anything new blow me away
Post metal is one of the greatest genres but almost dead
Grind seems to be doing things
Post punk isn’t it rn
Trip hop long dead
Noise rock is a badass genre but the new stuff I’ve sampled seems like a poor imitation, for the most part
Totally forgot to mention prog rock / metal but y’all know not to touch the modern shit, goes without saying
Shoegaze / dream pop could revive itself, potentially
Folk is too vague, but the new age and avant forms have potential even now, honestly it’s not a specialty of mind
thrash, power, speed metal etc. nope, don’t bother
Djent is a waste of time
Drone is cool and I like ambient, some recent hits there to be fair
Jazz is awesome, but saying I know anything about modern jazz would be a barefaced lie. Some nu-jazz is v cool tho
Post-industrial is something I should explore more, a lot of potential there and some of it v recent
I dig some of the more progressive pop stuff that links in ambient or new age / arty shit (vague because who knows what I’m actually talking about here)
