They’ve been opening with “2122” forever—I always saw it as kind of a tongue-in-cheek raveup for the live setting, so it’s funny that it’s just…the opener here. I thought ars might prefer “st. Elmo” to the rest

I’m less inclined to see him this way now, but when I saw this band live in 2021 I saw Cameron as a really talented 19 year old rock singer who made it his vocation to rip singers off but in a uniquely dense way, so that he’s Paul banks this second Ian Curtis this one, doing a little mick or Eddie elsewhere, and the “kaleidoscope” of “ripoffs” was enough to make it feel oddly original. I think he’s integrated his sources a bit more by this point, but it’s def an odd balance of homage and unhinged energy

Oh I didn’t even see your comment so it’s funny that I directly responded to it

Deff got some Black Francis at times (though a bit deeper than Black Francis,)
when he tries sing in the dance punk way, I was deff think of the way James Murphy sounds when he shouts (not Murphy's regular singing voice)
Legit at times it feel like he was channeling Bob Weir of The Grateful Dead (seriously subtract the screaming on "Cowboy Nudes" and it's so apparent)

by even emulating so many influences it makes for a unique mixture. i don’t think each individual element has to be unique on its own. regardless his voice kicks ass

also literally nobody knows any of the 3 singers you just named

"also literally nobody knows any of the 3 singers you just named"
Yeah no one knows who Pixies, LCD Soundsystem, or The Grateful Dead are. lol I hate the term "filtered" but god you just filtered yourself hard
How famous does a group need to be to count if they're those are too obscure

Bob Weir is a good catch. I agree with Colton, but I can see why it’s a hard sell.

I don’t know how long it’s been since I’ve listened to a record “for the singing,” because the singing thrilled me autonomously, so I’m in the bag for Cameron winter. Also a great performer and I think prob a little taller than me. Dude must get so much

I don't hate his voice, but it doesn't really stick out much either
I don't hate this album or most of the songs, it's just kinda like bland for how chaotic it's trying to be?

You’d probably dislike LP1 more.

Maybe, I don't really even dislike this that much
The closer is legitimately good
While I have this 2.5'd, I'd say it's closer to a 3 than a 2

I like how the closer sounds drunk
|

I don't think this tries to be chaotic outside of a couple tracks, it just infuses a boisterous eccentricity to songs anchored by great grooves and pop sensibilities

I also agree that the ending to Undoer was cool
Those are top 2 for sure

the bg vocals on this album kind of remind me of those on No Other (1974) Colton check title track. Strength of strings too

One of the more scandalous nights of my life. Go to the timestamp for “3d country” as the closer
