^^^ Eh, I think System of a Down have a tendency to overstuff their albums. Almost all their albums have 12 or more songs. There are some good songs on Mezmerize and Hypnotize but there's a LOT of filler between both albums. You could take a few songs off each and have one solid album, but they decided to release them with a bunch of other songs that are not so good (Violent Pornography, U-Fig, Lonely Day, Old School Hollywood amongst others), which ultimately hurt both releases. It's like they just don't know when to stop themselves. The brickwalled production also does those albums absolutely no favours.

Filler is a complaint I could see with a lot of bands but soad isn’t one of them. Each of the songs on this are distinct enough despite the repetitive nature of the opening tracks like you mentioned

Science has got all the elements of good SOAD song. Twangy guitar intro, heavy chugga chuggas, weird ethnic vibe in the middle with some guy yodelling, back to heavy with extra yelling, then ending abruptly.
