@veninblazer thanks for mentioning submithub, I’d never heard of it before but I made an account yesterday and got approved by some blogger/playlist curator to do a write up and share my music. Also got a lot of rejections too lol. What is your artist name?

Kind of a tangent but the submithub game also opened my eyes up even more to how sad the zoomer/influencer/tik tok culture’s effect on music is (I’m not even that old so apologies for sounding like an angry boomer). So many people told me the last song is too long, intros are too long, too many genre combos etc, everyone just want everything to come in all at once, easily identifiable genre tag, and just give them a sugary dopamine hit for exactly 2-3 minutes, and then stop abruptly. It sucks having to write around those restraints if you want people to share your music. I guess I’m lucky to get an approval in only a day with how high the rejection rate is but it’s just a little sad how artistic expression has been reduced to a math equation.

That’s dumb. I was out of state for a couple weeks with nobody to talk to and I had this on repeat the entire time because I was enjoying it so much. Don’t write to other people’s specifications

I really appreciate that. Thank you! I ended up with 7 approvals on there anyway so I’m trying not to put too much stock into the rejections, I’m just gonna focus on making the best music I can.

Have had this on my summer playlist and it’s always great when it pops into my rotation

Your description above is depressing to read and I hope that it’s not completely true. I enjoy the long drawn out intros, length of tracks, unconventional structures and interesting genre combos. I am sure if you go to the 90s/00s it was the same with people thinking “everything needs to be a radio hit” but plenty of people and artists went the other direction. Don’t get discouraged by people who simply don’t appreciate music.

Sorry for the late reply, I had to go back to work (school) in September so I haven’t been on here as much. Tbh I wrote that stuff in frustration, but it’s still pretty much true. I did end up with several articles/reviews/playlist adds as well as one interview, but for every one of those I got five more saying it’s too heavy or not heavy enough or too metal or not metal enough or some other arbitrary criticism. I appreciate you though! Tbh I’m working on two new projects simultaneously. The next one is basically me just trying to actually have fun making music for the first time. The lyrics will almost certainly still be emotional/depressing but musically it’s a lot more upbeat and electronic. It’s mostly synths. The next one after that is basically just more of the same emo/post-hardcore that I’ve been making. But I felt like I needed a break emotionally and creatively after making this EP, which I’m super proud of but at the same time was the furthest thing from “fun” while I was making it. It’s a mental breakdown in musical form and I’m glad I was able to capture that. But my next EP I need to do something completely different, and then I’ll be ready to jump back into the darkness.

I did an interview about this EP a few months ago and forgot to post it here but I think some people here may find it interesting. I talked about the meaning behind the lyrics, my mental health struggles, my creative process as a one man band, etc.
