“ I’ve been a cat owner my whole life and I always had a dream of one day having a cat that would let me teddy bear hug the shit out of them in bed all night and he lets me. Every night I put my arm out and he comes and drapes himself over and I lock him in like a little roller coaster bar and squeeze him with both arms in a bear hug and he smashes his face into my arm so hard he can barely breath the he just purrs and drools on me all night long every night, it’s disgusting”
I’ve never known love like this

Also a Johnny 3 but an ash/sloth 4.5 and boney 5? I think I might like this album.

"For some innovative 5th Wave Emo check Stomach Book / nouns / Origami / Parannoul / Gezan"
LOL
swap Parannoul for Della Zyr (far more interesting take on emogazing post rock), drop Gezan (best artist there, but not emo???) and replace literally any of the remaining names (but especially Origami Angel) with Asian Glow, and this can just about pass
"I think I might like this album."
Check i became birds instead. Shorter/more fun/better/rips off NMH harder etc

Yeah, that list of so-called innovative 5th wave emo artists is a trainwreck
Epic self-own moment, really
Also check Asian Glow [233556]

they are still here, but rarely as front-and-centre (and often let down by self-sabotaging songwriting truncations)

check trophy eyes for even more self-sabotaging songwriting

This is interesting, but not really my thing.

Damn I’d’ve thought this would totally be Sowing-core
Prob not gonna stay a 5 for me though

I admittedly only listened once before rating, so things could change. It seemed interesting musically but nothing grabbed me or seemed all that memorable.

just jam the first 2 mins of daytona 500 on repeat and imagine that the rest of the record is anything close to as good

Album Rating: 4.5
Admittedly the 5 is based largely on one really impactful listen during which I may or may not have been quite stoned heh heh. But this is certainly a very strong 4 at the bare minimum.

Ok so you guys have argued your way back to five waves and zero innovations

that's precisely what happened though
post 2010 emo is generally unnecessary and something you don't need to bother with, save a select few acts

if we're gonna get into the pure sadism of looking at emo for its innovation, 5th wave is *sometimes* the most innovative it's been since before the unfortunate early 10s american football worship/reunion phase
and shock horror it's because the internet
|
| |
But what even is the point of distinguishing between waves if there are no innovations
I can think of genres with only like 3 waves where each one sounds vastly more different than 1st wave emo does to 5th
