This album sat comfortably toward the lower end of their discography for me, which still means it’s fucking art. But seeing the beggar performed live gave me a whole new appreciation for this behemoth.

This feels like the perfect reconciliation of White Light's bright gothic folk and the trilogy's ambitious, expansive song structures.

IDK man for Gira to putting out work like this after a 40+ year career when a million other bands have become legacy acts after a decade of "good albums" is pretty telling. This obviously isn't the best thing he's done but I'd say it surpassed all my expectations.

Absolutely, and though it isn't uncharted territory for Swans it's a clear progression from Leaving Meaning's sound. They're not done exploring yet and that's more than can be said for most bands of their vintage.
