going to give this a shot but all this bad production talk is preparing me for the worst

This has grown on me a lot already. Hyperborean Plains feels like it is missing something compared to the rest, but the rest are sick. Though that crazy random AOR moment in Gridworm must be a break in the dimension or something ahah.

Curious how you think it compares to Phase 1 Frozencarl

The production isn't really bad, it's still better than on the first two albums with lars and roberth, the only problem might be that the clean vocals are sometimes too quiet in the mix

Yea I remember when Solution .45 did the whole "let's have the vocals low in the mix to make the guitar work stand out" thing on Nightmares Pt. 1 and it only made everything sound muddy and unexciting. What makes this one better in that regard is that the guitarwork is at least somewhat interesting. But the effect is more or less the same.

I thought nightmares part 1 was juat boring because the songs weren't that good, the songs here are good

That makes the shallow production at least harder to notice. But it is there. Which is a bit of a shame because this is a pretty strong comeback album from them.

Yeah I'd say the singularity trilogy so far is definitely their best material with lars and roberth, then again a big part of the problems with their first two albums with them was the production

Not trying to mimic everyone here but production work really kills the potential of this album. The songs themselves are pretty great, but man. I honestly cannot imagine the band members hearing the final mix and going 'yeah that's good, ship it'. It's like having your sound wrapped in foam or something.

I must be weird, because it honestly doesn't bother me that much. I think the growls on Mors Principium Est - The Unborn were way quieter, which was really bothersome. Or how plastic Veil of Maya - Eclipse sounded. But here my only gripe is that the clean vocals could have been a bit louder

Very solid album. A Voyage With Tailed Meteors goes hard!

the production isn't as good as the first one but overall as a dense modern metal mix goes it's not too bad. definitely pretty girthy. a bit more brightness in the guitars would probably improve it but i prefer this to a lot of modern metal productions where the drums all sound like they're competing to be as overwhelming as possible and the guitars are way too twangy

So far, liking this a bit more than Phase I. This band is good, and the production isn't bad.

Just got through my third listen. I didn't expect to like this as much as I do, especially given their recent hiatus. A solid melodeath record.

The more I listen to it, the better the songs get and the more I hate the production. Easily the worst production of any Scar Symmetry album. The clean vocals in Overworld are so low in the mix I can barely hear them. There is just so much white noise and not enough room for the vocals and guitars to breathe. It's killing me because I love this band and this album. I would seriously pay over $100 for a remastered version of the album with the same production/mixing as Phase 1. It blows my mind that Per heard the final mix of the album and thought it sounded good.

especially when you queue up Phase I right before it. they flow into each other pretty well and you can pick out the motifs they use in both. pretty neat

having done that, I'm still not sure which album I like better
