WHY DO YOU MOURN by The End, a side project of both Mats Gustaffson and Sofia Jernberg of F!O fame. The first track, "Snow", will engender reminiscence of ARRIVAL. (If it doesn't, not even a little bit, I'll be shocked.)
It's still quite a bit different from ARRIVAL, obviously, and even ventures into some sparse, pared-down folk passages. But it has that... "edge" that so many people thought was missing from this. Strong 3.5 after the first few listens. Could definitely see it settling at a 4.0 come year-end, but we'll see.

Jamming it now and loving it so far, first track is what I expected new Fire! Orchestra would sound like. The second track is exactly what I needed today after a hectic morning.

Yeah I still feel that way about this. The textures and delivery of this is nice and pleasant and a little groovy but the whole time I am wondering when they are going to "do stuff"

I come back to this often but each time I kind of wish I was listening to something else. This has a whole lot going on....and nothing all at once but for some reason I can't help but be captivated. At times its clever, dense, or simple. Can't seem to figure it out but it is definitely one of the most interesting releases this year even if it continues to fall short of my wild expectations from the last record.
