I actually love self titled or gold or whatever we're calling it. Like, a lot. I'd rather listen to that than any of the other albums they made after Amp by like, a very wide margin. I don't think the band has to be playing janky as hell shit for the music to be considered interesting or good and I think it was largely to their detriment on both Bedlam and Oct, which are full of just fucking shrill horrible sounds that regardless of what cool thing might be going on technically/musically, I'd rather listen to my ass cheeks slapping together than like 80% of either of those albums, and then i think their attempt to dial that back on Nocturniquet landed like an overproduced wet fart, where there were some nice sounding and interesting things but again, 80% of that album I'll be fine never hearing again.
I was definitely wary when the singles dropped and having not liked this band since their 3rd album had basically zero expectations for it, but I gave it its fair time when it dropped and something kept me coming back to it and honestly I think it's a beautiful album and they're actually making music that they can perform live without, once again, just sounding like a shrill fucking mess.
That being said I agree that this acoustic version does absolutely nothing for it. Most of it sounds nice enough I guess but just like, a more hollow and shoddily produced version of the original album, I would've loved to see them do literally anything with any of these songs to make them better fit the format, but they truly did nothing. It's just the album again but a little more acousticy.

They wouldn't play their old material live if they changed their name.

reviews aren’t unnecessary and you’re acting like a lil boy about a prog band in apparent decline

You might not like it, but this is the most interesting record they have made since Deloused.
