I like this more than The Spark but it's so meh. Good ideas here and there but mediocre execution. None of the choruses really hit though I think half the verses are pretty good. The drumming and orchestral instrumentals are fantastic but nothing is really making me want to listen through this again.
The worst part for me is that Rory's guitarwork is so uninspired here. There's nothing memorable in the way that most of what he did on the first 4 albums was. I feel like he's gotta be bored out of his mind playing these new songs live.

yeah im pretty shocked by how bland rou's contributions to this are in particular. i think the rest of the band is doing a decent job but this easily has his worst hooks imo (which im esp shocked to say for an album that lead off with goddamn pls set me on fire)
im glad i can at least have some fun with this but i really hope the next few albums are better than this and that its shortcomings are simply a result of rou needing to kinda rediscover his passion for writing post pandemic bc the magic has def been fucked up

Can we all just stop and celebrate hearing Batty C on the vocals again? So good to hear the other guys singing on the album again and it brings so much when they do chime in

My problem with this band is Rou Reynolds' singing vocals, they're so weak, the dude can not hold a note. His voice is so wobbly on the quieter vocal parts, it puts me off greatly.
I don't understand why one of the others can't take over the clean vocals.
Instrumentally I've always loved the energy of these guys.

That is a bizarre take lmao Rou is one of my favorite vocalists

I guess it's all personal preference and unfortunately his voice has always grated on me.
What I will say is I've replayed It Hurts quite a lot today already.

think his wobbliness is what makes it so great tbh. Think of the quieter singing parts on songs like One True Colour or The Sights. Really adds so much to the dynamic.
At least he's not doing a nearly whining singing like he was on TTTS

He's not the best singer in the world, but his vocals give a ton of character. That's why I like Rou as a vocalist. I just wished his screams still had the same energy as the pre-Spark era, they don't have the same bite anymore sadly. He sounded fantastic on Mindsweep to me.

i can recall what chris is doing on here okay and appreciate his presence here but yeah satellites >>>>
also yea lol rou's vocal performance in and of itself is not the problem here dude sounds great as always

Completely get where you guys are coming from with regards to his vocals being full of character, I have the same opinion with other vocalists, just not his unfortunately.
Their albums are always worth checking out for me because I will always find a couple of gems on every album, to the point where I now have my own personal 'best of' and it's great!!

I don't think Chris can sing all too well anymore so his vocals have been phased out. I could be wrong but I swear he sang the cleans on Mothership but Rory took over on that when they perform it live now.
