Haha yeah, I dug lil boat but everything else I’ve tried of his before this record just slides off my ears
I really like the themes he explores on this, not just of spontaneity in creativity and taking risks, but also of celebrity in the modern age and the duality that black men often face in this arena with regards to sexuality and how complex that can be internally. I really think people take for granted how deeply he introspects here because it can come off as cheesy and especially because of how obvious some of the initial psych influences are. The lyrics on this are incredible imo

‘Honestly the first time I’ve seen anyone mention Hendrix in this conversation so kudos’
Think you’ll find I make the Hendrix comparison in my review for this dumpster fire, I believe I am also owed kudos

Lol honestly the whole ‘whether or not it’s okay for me to belittle this art instead of just disliking it’ smacks of amateurism/childish attitude. Didn’t get a lot out of your review other than you have a bone to pick and wrote a bit too long doing so. But it’s really quite well written for what it is.
I believe you’ve mistaken yachty’s yearning for acceptance as an artist as petulance & a disdain for his fan base, when he’s actually simply trying something new and speaking about his own experience in a pretty broken culture & music culture, affirming to himself and to others that spontaneity and joy in creating is a worthwhile pursuit. Sorry it doesn’t cater to your vision of what experimentalism should be but you sure have found a pretty smart mouthed way of minimizing the creativity here lol. Never really seen someone deny art the opportunity to be art like this
By all means have fun writing a review but yeah I’m gonna continue glazing over your gesture to Jimi Hendrix here because i don’t think you’ve contributed much to the ‘conversation’ i referenced, apart from providing an example of what investing in cynicism towards authenticity in modern mainstream music looks like and accusing the artist of it instead 🤷 Sorry man I’m not trying to come at you but your review rubs me all the wrong ways!

Damn man I was only poking fun with my comment, didn’t expect you to gun for me that hard. Cheers tho styll
Childish and amateurish is right, but that whole opening question is meant to reflect the poor, childish standard I perceive in the music itself. I definitely don’t believe it shouldn’t exist just because I don’t like it or because it doesn’t conform to my own preferred style of experimentation. I think there’s a difference between denying something the opportunity to be art and asserting that it’s bereft of artistic accomplishment.
Certainly don’t meant to rub anyone up the wrong way with what I say, but it’s all good man, hopefully I’ll be able to write something you agree with in the future!
