Tbh this is pretty unique in that it's basically a prog album but with the finesse and attitude of like Guns N Roses or Stone Temple Pilots.

Like I can't really think of anything that sounds quite like Beast and the Harlot or Blinded in Chains that pulls off Dream Theater nerdiness while still maintaining a sense of personality and coolness. I wouldn't even say The Stage really accomplishes that.

Oh yeah they're def pretty terrible in some spots (Betrayed, the end of MIA, even the key change of Beast and the Harlot to an extent).

I do think the vocal performances of Beast, Bat Country, and Seize the Day (the hits) are easily the his best here. Kind of a shame neither this nor the Stage got Shadows at his peak like the albums in between did. We'll always have the Live in the LBC performances of the aforementioned hits at least

Might have to try that. I would enjoy hearing these with better vox. Sidewinder was a highlight out of the tracks I could make it all the way thru on the album when I was revisiting

I bet an inst version of this album would be pre excellent and/or a re recording with him in a better spot vocally
