To their credit, I imagine this would sound sick as feck live. I think they’re doing a joint tour off the back of this.

Is it tho
Maybe I just don’t like drone and sludge when they’re this sluggish with literally no interesting songwriting decisions, tho I get others heart that shit, so fair play. Scorn is just so much better at that than this.

Idk, I'm not listening to sludge for the songwriting decisions I'm looking to be crushed into a smear of grease on the pavement

I mean, yes, but, erm, songwriting…
Like, Dopethrone or Feedbacker work because they is sludgy/noisy as heck AND well written/structured/paced etc.

Fair yes, but there’s something to be said for just being musically bludgeoned to death case in point Pinocchio's Example by Harvey Milk where the bulk of the song is just one blaring note gradually played faster until it turns into this train wreck of a power chord over and over until the vocalist just fucking roars, like musically it's about as basic as it gets but it's an experience on a totally sensory level. Dopethrone's more conventionally structured, and a better album overall but I don't think pentatonic riffs played dummi loud structured according to conventional rock songwriting is inherently better

this
also people don’t seem to get that sound design is also songwriting when it seems they mainly think when they say it they mean it as a structural argument

I wish we had gotten some full blown grind/sludge/doom masterpiece but they decided to go a different way and it’s still pretty good.

I think y’all are being too nice. When you’ve got the reputation and goodwill these guys have, putting out something this aggressively o k a y just isn’t up to snuff, particularly when (at least in my mind) the obvious combo of manic aggressive grind and noisy sludgy doom sounds like it could be such a slam dunk.

I get that. But I don’t usually let a band’s rep come into play when I’m listening to and rating something like this. It’s good for what it is. Really sludgy and heavy as fuck parts mixed with some dark and ambient/noisy passages. And as much as I love the band, I wish Full of Hell would tone it down with that kind of shit. I don’t listen to a lot of noise and ambient, so I have no idea if tracks like Rainbow Coil are considered “good” in that scene or whatever.
Now, if these bands toured together and they played this instead of their regular sets I’d be a little pissed.
But I was out walking my dogs last night and this is the perfect soundtrack for a late night walk.
