After 1973's masterpiece, "Dark Side Of The Moon", Pink Floyd could have released anything and it would have sold plenty of copies. But the band decided a year later to release a omega 5 song album in "Wish You Were Here", every second of the album is just brilliance.

This is Pink Floyd's best album, no doubt. People only say "Dark Side Of The Moon" is because of the amount of copies sold and that it has more than this albums 5 songs. But I believe this is the best lyrical work the band has done. And on this album there are no fillers and it is all just great work.

I think what this album does to perfection is combine the bands to most successful albums "The Wall And Dark Side Of The Moon", the first part of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", sounds like a crazy 13 minute interlude at first with some very light guitar in the background and what sounds like some noise from out of space. This is the kind of long and experimental song you would find on "Dark Side Of The Moon". But if you wait long enough the guitar gets heavier and it ends up being a perfect opener to this album. The lyrics are great with about every two lines the vocalist coming in and saying the chorus: "Shine on you crazy diamond", with sort of a choir in the background singing with him, this is an overall awesome piece of work done by this band. 5/5


This album is a lot like "The Wall", because of songs trying to make a difference in our society. Scary songs that make you want to pee in your pants "Welcome To The Machine" combines all sorts of weird instruments and it has a weird synthesized sound to go along with the great vocals by the bands lead singer. Near the chorus an acoustic guitar appears and the chorus is sang cleanly and sounds beautiful. Though the song is to weird in some peoples opinion with the combination of all those instruments that it has in it, the song distorted sound and meaningful lyrics make it a classic. 5/5

"Have A Cigar", is the most mediocre song on the album. It is another meaningful song were the band openly again try's to attack the music industry but overall the song lacks structure. I couldn't point out a particular part of the song to you and say "Oh yeah that's the chorus", and with that comes a decent guitar solo. But the impact of this song has inspired and motivated several bands to speak out against what a piece of crap the music industry is. But this is not when the band is at the best, they need the freaky sound of "Welcome To The Machine" and the catchyness and brilliant instrumental work of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1" to be successful. The song is decent but the instrumental work is sub-par and the song is a step backwards from everything on this album. 3.5/5

"Wish You Were Here", The next track, has to be one of the top 100 songs ever recorded. The song is a soft and simple song by Pink Floyd standards, with a beat that only gets a bit louder during the chorus and some guitar solo in between. But the lyrical work is some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The opening line is a great tie-in to what the song is going to offer: "So you think you can tell? Heaven from hell" the chorus and the pre-chorus are just magnificent and it's the kind of song that evens though it is over 5 minutes long you just never want it to end. The song has been covered by virtually everyone that can play it, and it should be covered just out of respect. Now there are several songs called "Wish You Were Here", but I don't think any of those songs will ever compare to this one. What a great and timeless piece of work by the band. 5/5

There is no way the second "Shine On Your Diamond" could compare to this cd's opener but it comes pretty close. The beat basically stays the same, with some different lyrics and emotion put into the song. Still a great song but not quite as good as the first offering by the band. 4.7/5

Wow, what an album. There is no way an album like this should ever be overlooked as far as the greatest albums of all-time. This is were some of the freakiest beats and most complicated lyrics come from the band, and it ends up being some of there best work. It is more upbeat than "The Wall", but not as upbeat as "Dark Side Of The Moon" but it still combines both of the albums perfectly.
